Why a Good Skincare Routine Is So Important

Getting into a good daily skincare routine is essential if you want the skin on your face and body to look smooth, refreshed, moisturised, nourished and hydrated, giving you a gorgeous natural glow.

Whether you have sensitive skin or you just want to look after yourself a little more, we all need to take the time for self-care every now and again, and spending time on a daily skincare routine can allow you to easily slot a little of this into your life.

So, how can you establish a good skincare routine? It’s really simple, if you know what to do.

3-Step Routine for Looking After Your Skin

Looking after your skin really can be as easy as 1, 2, 3. Follow these steps and you’ll be on your way to smoother, better hydrated, more nourished and beautifully moisturised skin:

1. Drink Plenty of Water

Nourishment for your skin needs to begin on the inside. Your skin may appear dry if you’re dehydrated, so increasing how much water you drink could help it to look and feel less so.

It’s recommended that we all try to drink eight glasses of water a day. Use a reusable bottle to minimise your impact on the environment as you try to stay hydrated while you’re out and about – you can even buy bottles with markings on reminding you when to take a drink to help you out.

Some foods can be hydrating too, such as cucumber, melon and spinach, so try to include these in your diet more often and your skin will thank you.

If you’re not looking after yourself internally, you’re unlikely to see the best possible effects on the outside too. Once you’ve got it right on the inside, then you can start to concentrate on the surface of your skin.

2. Cleanse Your Skin

Cleansing your skin is also important for keeping it looking and feeling hydrated. You need to make cleansing part of your skin routine, but doing it twice a day, every day could actually dry out your skin, so it’s important to find the right balance.

You should aim to cleanse your skin a couple of times each week, but you need to find the right product first. If your skin is sensitive, you’ll need to take care to avoid skincare products containing chemical ingredients that could be harsh to your skin, stripping it of essential nutrients.

If you have experienced this in the past, it’s important to find a product packed with nutrients to rehydrate your skin and give it what it needs. In the Dermikelp® Gentle Cleansing Body Wash, which is part of our Dermikelp® Body Essentials Starter Kit, you’ll find nutrient-rich, sustainably sourced sea kelp, proven to help cleanse and soothe skin. It can even help to provide relief from itchiness, leaving your skin feeling beautifully cleansed and soothed.

3. Keep Skin Moisturised

Applying a moisturiser should be the final stage of any good skincare routine, and you should try to do this twice a day for the best results. Moisturising after a bath or shower leaves your skin feeling lovely and smooth, and applying moisturiser to your face can provide it with a little extra protection against the elements when you’re outside.

The Dermikelp® Body Essentials Starter Kit includes a Dermikelp® Nourishing Moisturising Lotion too, which also features CEM-K, a pure, liquidised form of the brown kelp Ecklonia maxima, sustainably harvested by hand from fertile waters off the coast of South Africa.

In your Dermikelp® Body Essentials Starter Kit, you’ll also find a Dermikelp® Soothing Cream to provide extra relief to your skin, helping to keep it looking and feeling gorgeous.

By making Dermikelp® part of your skincare routine, you can be assured that you’re being sensitive to your skin and sensitive to the environment. Shop the range here.
